Laurie M. Marshall, First Vice-President
Laurie is a member of the Monday Musical Club of Southwest Michigan where she serves as the Student and Junior Club Advisor for several years. She is director and teacher of The Children's Academy, a private studio for academically and artistically gifted and talented youth.
Sue McDonald, Recording Secretary and Editor of the Counterpoint
New MFMC Recording Secretary, Susan McDonald, is current President of The Birmingham Musicale. She taught vocal music for many years, then taught in the elementary classroom, retiring after 35 years. Susan has worked for The Birmingham Musicale as Benefit and Publicity Chairman, Co-Chair of the Musical Production Ensemble, and Recording Secretary and First Vice-President. Her work for MFMC began as Corresponding Secretary and presently as CounterPoint Editor.
Kelly Yoakam, Treasurer
Kelly is a professional harpist?having taught and performed in mid-Michigan for nearly three decades. As a child, she studied piano for eleven years and played violin in high school and college.
She has a masters degree in musicology from Michigan State University, where she was awarded a fellowship to do research in Ireland. The focus of her study was the legacy of harper Turlough O’Carolan (1670-1738).

Mary Jane Timmer, Immediate Past President
Dr. Lia Jensen-Abbott Second Vice President
Dr. Lia Jensen-Abbott has recently performed in Hawaii, Montana, Arkansas, Novi Sad, Serbia, Paris, Zurich, as well as regionally in Michigan and Indiana. Future performances include an upcoming solo and collaborative recital with singer Dr. Karen Kness in Costa Rica as well as Stockholm and Helsinki. Lia is a sought-after adjudicator, most recently judging at the Music Teaiachers’ National Association National Senior Piano Duet Finals in Chicago. In 2012, Lia performed a solo recital in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. Her background in the humanities has allowed her to present lecture recitals on multiple topics, including the works of Florence Price and Wayne Horvitz. She co-founded the Albion College International Piano Festival with her husband, David. In addition, she is the President of the Lake Michigan Music Teachers Association. She holds degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and Penn State University where she has worked with Timothy Shafer, Edmund Battersby, and Jeremy Denk among others. She currently teaches at Albion College in Albion, Michigan.

Sandra DeRemer, Chair of Finance
Sandra was born and raised in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky. She is proud of her Southern heritage which includes a relative who signed the Declaration of Independence. Sandra has been a member of the Tuesday Musicale of Greater Pontiac for over 27 years and has served her club in many capacities including President. One of her greatest joys has been singing in the club’s Women’s Chorus for all those years. Sandra has also served the MFMC as District President, District Vice President, Citations Chairman, Convention Committee member, Profiles Publisher, and is currently the State Treasurer. Favorite things Sandra and her husband, Jim, love to do include watching classic movies, traveling around the world, driving Jim’s classic ’58 Corvette in parades, and spending time with their precious grandchildren.
Jean Watson, Southeast District President
Jean earned a BS Degree from Eastern Michigan University and a MS Degree from the University of Denver. She taught in the elementary schools in Denver for many years. Jean has been a member of Royal Oak Musicale since 1998. After returning to Michigan (Royal Oak) in 2010, she quickly became active in Royal Oak Musicale, including singing second soprano in the Chorus. In addition to her responsibilities with the southeast district, she is also President of the Royal Oak Musicale. She is a second year piano student of Susan Mutter, and loves every minute of it.
Mary Ann LaMonte, Northeast District Pres.
Mary Ann is Past President of Tuesday Musicale of Greater Pontiac. She is currently 1st Vice-President, Photographer and Chairman of the Dora Dawson Awards. Mary Ann performs as a mallet percussionist with the Waterford New Horizon Band. She is also a Member of two handbell groups and a church choir. Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, Mary Ann received her BA from Kalamazoo College and MS from Eastern Michigan University. She taught elementary children in the Pontiac Public Schools for 30 years.
Mary Jane Timmer, Northwest District Pres.
Mary Jane is a member of the Piano Teachers Forum and St. Cecilia Music Center. She maintains a private piano studio and accompanies at Westside Christian School, Westend Church, and for individuals. She has directed both children and senior choirs at several area churches. In addition to serving as president of the MFMC Northwest District and MFMC President- elect, Mary Jane is the current president of the Grand Rapids Musicians’ League.

Joyce Vance, Southwest District President
Joyce is currently a 37 year member of The Monday Musical Club of Southwest Michigan. She has held many offices in the club and served as President in 2005
to 2010. She currently serves as the club Treasurer. At the District level she serves as 1st Vice President for the MFMC Southwest District. At the state level of MFMC, Joyce is Recording Secretary and Chairman of Senior Club Reporting. In 2010 she was awarded the MFMC Citation Award for Outstanding Contribution and Loyal Devotion to the Organization.
